RIP Don Calfa 1939 – 2016

It is with a heavy heart that I have to report the sad news of the passing of Don Calfa.  Don appeared in many films over the years including Weekend At Bernie’s, Chopper Chicks In Zombietown and perhaps his most beloved role as Ernie in Return Of The Living Dead.

Don was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 3, 1939.  He dropped out of high school to start acting after seeing the film Rebel Without A Cause.  He worked in Broadway and Off Broadway productions before setting his sights on a career in films.

He appeared in many dramatic roles over the years but he is perhaps best remembered as a comic actor in many films.

Over the course of his career he worked with such greats as Warren Betty and Jack Nicholson and directors Martin Scorsese and Stephen Spielberg.

I remember seeing Return Of The Living Dead at the theater and it went on to become not only a favorite of mine but for many other horror fans giving it a cult status.

Don was very active on the Horror Convention Circuit with his fellow ROTLD cast members who he remained friends with until his death.

The world has lost a great actor but heaven is a bit brighter today!

RIP Don!!!
